Real patients describe their drug abuse and recovery. Videos play in Flash, in high resolution, in full screen. doc.com's educational platform facilitates effective interactions between learners and faculty, including the giving of assignments, the taking and scoring of Module assessment tests, and giving feedback. Portfolio documentation for programs or individuals is simple. This unique resource provides its users with knowledge, skills review, and opportunities for reflection. It also fosters learning about complex communication and relationship challenges. Each of the more than 40 learning modules presents key principles, evidence-based recommendations, and a skills checklist. Authors demonstrate key skills in video encounters with standardized patients and provide video and text commentary on the interview. The interview challenges help learners develop sensitivity to differing communication styles and difficult situations, and the flexibility to respond respectfully and skillfully.

- "faculty (teaching the) clinical skills have more insight into the concepts”
-
"the endorsement and modeling by physicians (in videos) has a powerful effect on student's attitudes toward the importance of interviewing skills....the pop-up labels of specific skills is extremely beneficial in helping students maximize learning from the video presentations.”
-
"Doc.com has an impressive effect. Students actually did their assignment, and got a lot out of it. This is a contrast with previous years -- few students read textbook assignments. They are far ahead of any group I've ever had at this stage of the program. They did extremely well with their first patients this week."
What Program Directors say about doc.com*
- "residents spontaneously comment on attempts to try skills from that week's modules. That's amazing, and I think the engaging text combined with video demonstration convinces some to try new skills on their own.”
- "(doc.com) helps us meet the ACGME requirements for teaching and evaluating communication skills.”
- "takes a "soft” subject which most of our faculty are ill prepared to teach and turns it into a concrete discipline.”
