Since 1998, Dr. Beckman has served as Medical Director for the Rochester Individual Practice Association (RIPA), and Crossbridge Physicians. He is also clinical professor of medicine and family medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Denistry.

Dr. Beckman's research has focused on effective physician-patient, teacher-learner and colleague-colleague communication. His research has been published in JAMA, the Annals of Internal Medicine, JGIM, the Archives of Internal Medicine and Academic Medicine. Recently, his research has turned to creating effective organizational relationships. As part of RIPA's work, special attention is being paid to the way levels of relationships in a community affect clinical outcomes.
